Falling Iguanas

A couple months ago, when our Pathways team leader, Steve, asked me to participate in a curriculum revision meeting with him and one of our other directors, Mike, I was pleased to join. And when he said it would be in Florida at the end of January and beginning of February, I was more than pleased. But what I didn’t realize was two things:

  1. The entire time the three of us would be holed up in a room grinding through important curriculum updates, not really seeing the light of day until the last hours of our time together.
  2. Temps in Florida would drop so low that it would make world news as iguanas would go comatose and fall out of trees! https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-60090861
Florida was so cold when we were there that iguanas were falling from trees!

Of course, I did not travel to the opposite corner of the US for warm weather and fun activities, but the fact that our heater was broken the first couple days of freezing temps made for some long, chilly days. By God’s grace, we made good progress, and by the last day, things had warmed up enough that we could meet outside in front of our team leader’s camper in the afternoon.

The last afternoon of our curriculum revision meeting, Mike, Steve, and I were able to meet outside and soak up some vitamin D as we finished our work.

The fact that our team is always making revisions to our Pathways material speaks to the fact that we are always learning, growing, striving to be more effective in working with global pastors. Research from my dissertation assisted us with revisions, and the three of us putting our head together, tapping into many years of experience, and trusting God’s Spirit to guide us all led to pleasing outcomes that will make their way into our material.
