Adam, our oldest son, shared this informative and encouraging update following his recent trip to Indonesia.
Dear praying friends, thank you so much for your financial support and prayers. The Lord blessed this trip in so many amazing ways and I’d love to update you on everything that happened.
We spent the first night in Jakarta and met with a local missionary serving the Lord. After a good night’s sleep, we got on a plane and traveled to Pontianak where we spent the next 5 days. There we met up with a missionary family and many local believers serving the Lord through evangelism and discipling. These Christians were some of the toughest people I have met. The whole society was telling them that they were insane for following the Lord yet they persevered and continued to do the work he had called them to. Due to the difficult situation in Indonesia, I have kept them out of any pictures.
We were also able to share the gospel with the Sultan of a local temple and his wife. The discussion proved quite interesting and although he was very resistant, the seed has been planted so we pray the Lord works.
On the first Sunday, we visited a village church in Pontianak. It was about a three-hour drive out of the city and we were able to worship with and encourage the believers located there. Our local missionary who we were traveling with delivered a message on giving our entire lives to Jesus.
After Pontianak, we flew back to Jakarta and then out to North Sumatra to Aceh. The situation in Aceh is much more difficult than in Kalimantan. Christians are persecuted and threatened for their faith resulting in many believers being fearful in their evangelizing. We traveled up into the mountains and were able to meet with many local Christians and hear about the situation in Aceh as well as the state of their Churches and ministries. The Lord is working but so is the enemy. May God give them the boldness to proclaim their faith.
We ended the trip meeting with a group of Chinese/Indonesian people all attending a local Methodist Church. We were able to eat lunch with them and I was able to share my testimony on Sunday in front of the congregation. Overall the trip was extremely encouraging and I pray the Lord was glorified in our actions. The Lord also used this trip to clarify in my mind that there is nothing id rather do than spend my life overseas telling people about the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. Thank you so much for all your support.
