This blog is written by Holly following some of her recent experiences:
Last month, I was able to attend the Africa Division conference with Eric in North Carolina. One of the biggest highlights, for me, was hearing the testimonies about how God is working on the continent of Africa. There is incredible ministry going on in places like Congo, where over the last few years, they have begun to serve those with disabilities (for more from a ReachGlobal missionary involved in this ministry, click this link). In many countries, the disabled are not only overlooked but oftentimes abused, cast out and even accused of being demonized. What a joy to hear about how the love of Jesus is being shown to them as they are welcomed in, many times taken off the street, and given dignity and purpose. As they are invited into the church they can worship and find fellowship and their worth to God. I believe their praise offerings are some of the most beautiful and pleasing aromas to the Lord.
While I was learning about how God is working in Africa, my daughter was beginning to serve in disability camps over the summer here in the US. Hearing her excitement for this ministry and seeing how God is working through it, made me take a step back and look to see how God’s hand is moving.
Luke 14:15-24 is a beautiful and sobering passage that shows God’s plea for all people to be in his Kingdom, and he even gives a personal invitation for the poor and crippled and blind and lame.
As it turned out, I was able to join the last camp Allie was serving at and had the honor of helping to lead prayer groups for the staff during the week. Being able to see first-hand how much God loves all people, including those with disabilities, and inhabits their praises, was incredibly moving and a life changing experience.
