A couple weeks ago, Andrew flew to Kentucky to meet up with Adam and Alyssa. Then he and Adam and about six of Adam’s seminary buddies headed down to Florida for a double bachelor party. Both Adam and best friend Keegan are getting married soon, so they wanted one last bachelor road trip. They visited an African church in Florida, played on the beach, did some kayaking, ate great food, talked and prayed together.
But one dream that Adam and Andrew have both had for many years was finally realized. They went skydiving.
I suppose it is my fault, because they heard stories growing up about me going skydiving, bungee jumping, hang gliding, parasailing, etc. They figured it was finally time. Actually, truth be told, I wish I could have done it with them. But I was in Liberia, West Africa when it all went down.
They were required to jump tandem, with an experienced skydiver on their back. Andrew shared that when he saw Adam leap out of the back of the plane, the thought crossed his mind, “What in the world am I thinking???” Then he stepped up, and out he jumped. Truly is was an adventure they will remember for their lives, maybe use in sermon illustrations someday (as I have), and tell to their kids and grandkids. While I don’t want my boys to take foolish risks, I’m glad they can summon the courage to jump “outside the box” when opportunities present themselves.
