On Sunday afternoon, November 27, in a lovely secluded spot in Louisville, Kentucky, our son Adam got down on one knee and asked Sofia Velis to be his lifelong partner. She joyfully agreed, and on June 24, I will have the honor to officially pronounce them husband and wife, welcoming Sofia into our family.
Adam met Sofia in the fall of 2021 while they were both attending classes in the MDiv program at Southern Seminary in Louisville. Both of them have a passion to serve God in missions, and God has prepared them for each other in numerous ways be giving them similar values, similar beliefs, and shared interests.
An example of their shared passion for missions together is that they travelled together along with a team from Southern Seminary to Indonesia last summer to serve local missionaries , and will go to Nepal to do mission work with a Southern team in May 2022, a month before their wedding. Adam is getting to know Sofia’s family, who lives in the Atlanta area, and was relieved when her father gave his blessing to marry Sofia during Thanksgiving just a few days before Adam proposed. Adam and Sofia are taking similar courses at Southern, enjoy working out together in the gym, playing games together, reading and discussing books and theological subjects, trying out new restaurants, doing yardwork, and going for walks together.
We are thrilled at God’s goodness in bringing these two remarkable and ministry-minded people together. As they spend Christmas with us, it is a delight to watch them interact, to get to know Sofia better, and to celebrate God’s grace in providing a godly, wonderful partner for our son Adam. All praise to our glorious God!
