As this gets posted, I am in the air on my way to a new country, new partners, and a new network in Mozambique, southern Africa. This is my first time in this Portuguese-speaking country, and I am eager to develop new relationships and explore how we may be able to serve these people with Pathways Bible Training.

A brief search of the internet yields these results on the history of Mozambique: “Mozambique’s history includes pre-colonial Bantu migrations and Arab trade, followed by Portuguese colonization beginning in the late 15th century after Vasco da Gama’s arrival in 1498. The nation gained independence from Portugal in 1975 after a long liberation war, but then entered a devastating 16-year civil war (1977-1992) between the ruling Frelimo party and the Renamo movement. The country continues to address the legacy of conflict and poverty, while developing its economy.”
Here are some of the key elements of this trip with some prayer requests:
Mozambique – November 6-15
This will be my first time to Mozambique, southern Africa. I’ll be working with a new partner, Dr. Isaias, in this Portuguese-speaking country. My colleague Mike and I will be training in two locations, Maputo (capital) and Macia (smaller city to north).
Itinerary:
- Nov. 6-8 – Travel to Mozambique and begin to make connections.
- Nov. 9 – Preach in church services in Maputo.
- Nov. 10-11 – Train leaders in Macia.
- Nov. 12-13 – Train leaders in Maputo.
- Nov. 14-15 – Travel home.
Prayer points:
- This is a quick turnaround from having returned from Malawi a week ago. Even quicker will be the turnaround after Mozambique (only a few days) before leaving for Kenya. Please pray for energy, focus, overcoming jetlag, and joy to prevail.
- The focus of this training is to give introductory trainings, build relationships, and cast vision for launching a Pathways network in this country. Please pray for wisdom for those of us making decisions.
- Mike and I would like to test the waters with an oral-oriented version of our material. Pray for opportunities.
- As always, please pray for Holly while I’m away, that we can stay connected though many miles apart.
