Rigorous and righteous expedition to Kenya

November 20 – December 6. This is a long trip to a couple new locations in Kenya. I will be going solo from the US, meeting my Kenyan partner Silas, and traveling with him to the northern Kenya refugee camp Kakuma, then to the western Kenya city of Bungoma. We will be doing much training along the way, preaching in several contexts, logging many hours in busses, sleeping in very austere conditions with no electricity or running water, and joyfully serving our Lord throughout.

Itinerary:

  • Nov. 20-21 – Travel to Kenya.
  • Nov. 22-24 – Prep for all details, travel to Kakuma refugee camp (24-hour bus ride).
  • Nov. 25-28 – Train a new network of pastors ministering to unreached peoples in refugee camp.
  • Nov. 29 – Morning service preaching for struggling believers in difficult situations in camp. Afternoon travel to Bungoma.
  • Nov. 30 – Preach in church in Bungoma, western Kenya.
  • Dec. 1 – Meet Bungoma leaders, prep for training.
  • Dec. 2-3 – Pathways pre-launch conference for network of pastors.
  • Dec. 4-6 – Travel back to Nairobi, then back to US.

Prayer Points:

  1. Travel will be grueling via bus for many long trips. Accommodations will be like camping without the fancy gear (i.e. sleeping on ground, hot, mosquitoes, lice, bed bugs, no electricity or running water, etc.) So pray for ability to sleep, for endurance, and for joy through the journey, both for me and my Kenyan friend Silas.
  2. Kakuma is one of the largest refugee camps, with a million Somalis, Sudanese, Ethiopians, etc. Nearly all are Muslim, but there are ministry leaders living there with whom I will be working. Pray for God to guide me to the right leaders, for insight into how to minister to these unreached people groups, and for God to encourage the struggling masses through His Word.
  3. Bungoma is a western Kenya city, and many pastors from the region are eager to receive Pathways. Pray that I can cast vision and set up a plan with local leadership so that I can send US pastors to work with this network in the future.
  4. I will be gone for Thanksgiving, so pray for Holly that she will do well while I’m away, and that somehow we can stay connected when I’m in remote areas.

Thank you for your prayers!
