Earlier this month I (Eric) celebrated my 50th birthday. That’s a crazy big number for someone who is feeling as young as I do. Hopefully my 50 years have led to a bit of wisdom and experience that help to guide me through this journey of life. I’m thankful to the Lord for the many ways He shows His grace and goodness every day in my life. If there’s one thing I’ve learned over these years, it’s that I really have very little figured out, but if I can trust in God and draw near to His people, things will work out OK. Proverbs 3:5-6 has always been one of my guiding verses: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.”<\/p>\n

In celebration of my 50th, my mom and sister came out for a brief visit from Kentucky, and we enjoyed bbq Tri-tip and berry cobbler.<\/p>\n

6AM Saturday, preparing for triathlon start.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Then this past weekend, I competed in an Olympic distance triathlon in Kent, WA (1.5 km swim, 40 km bike, 10 km run). That was a blast and a good reminder that although I’m not a spring chick, I can still dig deep and do what needs to be done.<\/p>\n

The day after the race (yesterday), Holly and I drove to Snohomish and I preached in one of our supporting churches.<\/p>\n

This next weekend, we drive our son Adam across the border into Canada and drop him off at Trinity Western University where he begins a new phase in his life. We are excited for him, and trust that God will use his education to guide Adam into a kingdom-building career.<\/p>\n
