This year, we went north of Cle Elum and I-90 into a beautiful area of national forest that the boys discovered while searching the internet. Our target camping destination was Waptus Lake, with a dayhike on day two to Spake and Venus Lakes. The trip was perfect, with a challenging nine mile hike in, beautiful views, bugs but not too bad, and a great campsite. Midweek beat the crowds. We brought our dog Loki with us and he provided much comic relief.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2571\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2571\" style=\"width: 480px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2571\" src=\"http:\/\/belzglobal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/2021-07-Backpack-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"https:\/\/belzglobal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/2021-07-Backpack-1.jpg 480w, https:\/\/belzglobal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/2021-07-Backpack-1-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2571\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Stopping for lunch along the way<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The swims in the lakes were refreshing and invigorating. On the second day, the eight mile hike to the upper lakes was about 2000 feet of elevation gain in two miles, so we were doing some serious sweating and panting, but the views were well worth it.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2572\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2572\" style=\"width: 1280px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2572\" src=\"http:\/\/belzglobal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/2021-07-Backpack-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"402\" srcset=\"https:\/\/belzglobal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/2021-07-Backpack-4.jpg 1280w, https:\/\/belzglobal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/2021-07-Backpack-4-300x94.jpg 300w, https:\/\/belzglobal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/2021-07-Backpack-4-768x241.jpg 768w, https:\/\/belzglobal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/2021-07-Backpack-4-1024x322.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2572\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Gorgeous Venus Lake<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Each year, Adam and Andrew carry more weight as I carry less weight. This year we were only 5-10 lbs apart. The boys did a great job helping around camp, filtering water, cleaning and cooking, setting up and taking down the tent.<\/p>\n<p>There were no significant mishaps, although crossing the river since the bridge was washed out was a bit tenuous.\u00a0I&#8217;m going to sound like an old guy, but I was concerned if my right knee would carry me through the trip since I&#8217;ve had some growing arthritis issues with it. Although it was stiff and painful, I made it through the trip, and perhaps next year I&#8217;ll consider walking sticks or something to help ease the weight.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2573\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2573\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2573\" src=\"http:\/\/belzglobal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/2021-07-Backpack-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"452\" srcset=\"https:\/\/belzglobal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/2021-07-Backpack-3.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/belzglobal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/2021-07-Backpack-3-300x132.jpg 300w, https:\/\/belzglobal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/2021-07-Backpack-3-768x339.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2573\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">On the steep ascent to Spade Lake<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>We enjoyed sweet times with the Lord, talking with each other, enjoying God&#8217;s creation, and pushing our bodies.
