For much of the past 2+ years, our family has been the only members of our East Africa Equipping Team present in Dar. Last January, Tony and Holly Freitas moved here, and just last month Mark and Alyssa Dunker arrived in Dar. So now we have a team of three couples that is working to “Equip Africans to reach Africans!” While Mark and Alyssa are setting up their life here in Africa, I will be continuing doing the training I have been doing, and setting up more long-term training opportunities which will stretch several years into the future.
Last week, our three families went to nearby Zanzibar to meet together, strategize for the future, get to know one another, and have some fun together. It was a very beneficial time, and helped to unite us in our vision and passion for equipping African leaders. All of us have kids, who also enjoyed playing together. Each of us, in various contexts, have had extensive experience training leaders cross-culturally, so the blending of our understanding together as a team is most beneficial.
In this picture, we are on left, Freitas’ in middle and Dunkers on right.
Tomorrow I will be returning to Zanzibar to meet with key leaders about doing more equipping on the island, and am excited about this opportunity in this challenging context.
May God guide our team as we work “to equip East African pastors and leaders in Biblical training, leadership skills, and holistic community development so they may equip others to build God’s kingdom.”
Pressing on, Eric
