Pastor Training in Rwanda

View of Kigali from church

Rwanda is an amazing country, beautiful and brimming with potential. My good friends Pastor Gary, Pastor Jon and I had a wonderful and productive time working with a group of 17 pastors from various regions of the country. They all gathered in the capital of Kigali for a four-day training through the book of Jonah.

Pastor Esron was our coordinator and an excellent translator. Jon and Gary did much of the training, and I coached them, since in the future they will be leading this group, freeing me up to launch trainings in new locations.

It was a joyful celebration as these pastors grow significantly in their handling of the Scripture.

Some of their comments were:

  • “I learned steps. Before I was reading the bible like I was reading the newspaper, just quickly.” Theogene
  • “Before, I told “short cuts,” preparing message to “defend” myself, so people would appreciate me. I also learned not to start on Saturday night.” Jean Nepo
  • “Many pastors teach what they do not understand. You can deceive people. Thank you for helping us, giving us really important tools.” Daniel

We concluded the training by praying for and commissioning the pastors to pass this first training on to other pastors they know. Eight more workshops over the next three years to go!
