Medical update on Andrew

Many of you have been asking about the results from Andrew’s endoscopy and colonoscopy from a week ago. We just heard the final report a couple days ago from the pediatric GI specialist. To start with, it was determined that there are NO serious problems with Andrew’s insides. However, there are two spots with degrees of irritation – one just above his stomach in his lower eusophagus (probably caused by acid reflux), and the second in his upper intestines (which is more severe, considered “active irritation.”) These are both probably the result of the parasites which then caused his system to produce extra acid and resulted in him becoming intolerant (or allergic) to certain foods. Following taking some medicines to reduce the acid production and coat his stomach, we will begin a process of trying to isolate which foods are causing his reactions. Already Andrew doesn’t eat much, since most foods bother his stomach, but we are thankful for stores like Whole Foods and Trader Joes (although they take just about our “whole paycheck!”) so that we are able to get some specialty foods that cooperate with him. As long as we get on top of things, the doctor feels like Andrew should be feeling much better within the next couple months. Praise God! That is hopeful!

I will try to share another update in a few more days following Holly’s visit to the UCLA endocrinology/adrenal specialist on Thursday. Please keep praying for her. She is showing MUCH improvement from when we were in Dar, but she still has a ways to go before the “old Holly” is back.

Meanwhile, we moved down from Fresno to Pasadena yesterday, and are getting settled in some missionary housing. Initially we were told we’d be in a 3 bedroom apartment, which would have been wonderful. However, there was an oversight and we actually are in a nice, cozy 1.5 bedroom apartment. But the family is flexing with things, and we are thankful for a roof over our heads and the chance to be in beautiful southern California. If you would like to chat, I am happy to do so, and my phone number is 630.313.0132.

Thank you for your continuing prayers on our behalf. God is good, all the time. Pressing on, Eric
