In Acts 1, Jesus calls His followers to be His witnesses “in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” What a privilege that He would use us to spread the glorious Gospel of God’s grace! Usually, I’m more focused on the “ends of the earth” part of that verse. But for most of July and all of August, Holly and I have had the opportunity to be Christ’s witnesses in our “Jerusalem,” the Pacific Northwest. Every weekend, I’ve been preaching and we have been ministering in various churches, opening our home midweek to guide young families in the Word, and encouraging folks we don’t usually have time to connect with. Along the way, we hear people’s stories and search out ways we can draw people closer to the Lord. Although we miss not being with our home church, this season has been a joy. As I prepare to resume my global trainings, we thank God for Gospel advance, near and far.

Between May-August, I have preached 13 sermons, plus our weekly Young Families study in Titus. Sometimes the pastor requests I graft into his series, which requires new sermon prep, like this coming Sunday as I preach on Revelation 7. Other times the pastor requests I preach on a passage I’ve already used before, like Psalm 67 or Acts 20. Either way works well for me and I enjoy the opportunity.

One of the best parts of this summer is that Holly has been able to join me at most of these churches. She connects well with many people in the church and we are able to share in the experience with each other. She is my lifetime partner, and we love to do ministry together. Even though she can’t travel with me globally, this is a sweet way for us to serve.
